The Palms Las Vegas

Wow what a tall building! It's the (in)famous Palms casino and resort in Las Vegas. Notorious for its naughtiness, the Palms is a hotel aiming at younger people who want to have a good time. Especially young beautiful ladies are very welcome there - they have Palms Girl pageants, they host some Playboy events, and they were the first major venue to have a skinny-dipping night. I would not know how things are going on there, because I'm against sex discrimination - men have to pay $50 to get in, ladies are free. Hm.
Still, there's a special atmosphere there. More lighthearted, not so gamble-focused as in most other casinos. Yes, ofcourse, you can gamble your life savings away at the Palms, too, if you wish. But there's more to do there.
For instance, they have a Brenden Theatre in the back of the casino. 12 full-sized cinemas plus 1 IMAX screen. Also, they have a food court with all mandatory chains. And should you want to play - their table minimums are low and the rules are said to be generous toward the player. And if a giant billboard outside is to be believed, they have the loosest slots in Vegas.

The Palms is also mentioned very often in the NBC TV series "Las Vegas", that I mentioned before. The Palms owners, the Maloof brothers, are featured every once in a while in episodes. By the way, I mentioned earlier that I was planning on getting me the DVD series of season 1. Well I got it now, and on sept 24th 2005 if I'm not mistaken, the season 2 DVD is presented at - you guessed it - The Palms. Too bad that my budget does not permit me to go to Las Vegas that weekend. And on top of it, the Palms is totally booked. Maybe if you're a good looking young lady you can still get a room, but not me!

Las Vegas Trolley

Now doesn't that look cute? It's the Las Vegas Trolley, a means of getting around in Las Vegas that I had not tried before. And I found out it has pros and cons. The cons: it only runs up and down the strip - but then so does the monorail. Also, there's alot of ads plastered on the windows, so you cannot really look outside very well. And that is a pity, since there is so much to see on the Las Vegas Strip. And lastly, you do need a lot of time... this thing is slooooow. The main reason is that it actually travels up and down the strip, and the strip is like a 24/7 traffic jam. It's also called the biggest parking lot in Vegas. The good news is that you get to see a lot - if you can watch through the holes in the advertisements, that is. There are a few stops, at every other casino, between the Stratosphere and Sahara on the north end, and Mandalay Bay on the south end of the strip.

I did not mind the slow speed. Heck, I'm a tourist! There's no more sorrier being than a tourist in a hurry. Relax... Another good point of this Trolley is that it goes to the Hilton, too. That hotel is off-strip, but still has many attractions, if you're a sci-fi fan. Which I happen to be.

Maybe the best news is the price... only $1,75. Make sure you have exact cash, the driver does not have (or give) change. Many people still pay $2 anyway. A dayticket is $5. And that is not very expensive. So unless you're in a hurry... try the Trolley!
